We understand that you only want the very best for your child. Here at LARA dental, we do too.
Dentistry is important in every stage of life. Children’s dentistry is particularly important for a number of reasons:
- Early detection of preventable diseases
- Provides a foundation for the future of their oral health
- Early education formulates healthy habits to continue into adulthood
LARA dental is passionate about educating children. We go out into the local community to give interactive talks to kids about the importance of caring for their teeth.
Kids at LARA dental
LARA dental is a family practice and we love seeing the kids. Our highly trained team of Dental Hygienists, Oral Health Therapists/Dental therapists and Dentists at LARA dental work together to make sure all the kids first and ongoing dental experiences are positive, educational and fun. The whole team have a gentle and nurturing approach to educating and providing quality kids dental care.
At LARA dental we work together to provide individual children’s care and help support the whole family on many oral issues. During each visit, we not only check the mouth but also encourage and educate them on the importance of a healthy mouth, evaluate the growth and development of their teeth, jaw and airways and detect any early dental problems that may affect speech and overall health. We also talk about diet to parents, guardians, carers and the kids, and the effect this has on their teeth and body like why baby teeth are important for maintaining space for the adult teeth. By promoting healthy teeth in your kids now, they will have a healthier mouth and less dental problems in the future. Our fun-loving environment encourages kids to want to come back.
Dr Charlie Kahwagi and Dr Geoffrey Storey have been providing orthodontic treatments to patients of all ages for over 20 years. Seeing children from an early age will mean that our skilled practitioners can assess your child’s orthodontic needs as they grow. This will allow, where possible, treatment to begin at a younger age, thus preventing extensive treatment in their teenage years. Many problems develop early and when recognised by an experienced clinician, steps can be taken to reduce or even eliminate the negative long term effects these can have. This can reduce the severity of many problems and in some cases eliminate the need for very extensive work as teenagers or adults.
Your child’s first visit to LARA dental
The most important part of the first visit is the kids getting to know and be comfortable with our Dental Therapist/Hygienist and the LARA team. An enjoyable, comfortable first visit builds trust and helps put the kids at ease during future visits. Kids should be encouraged to discuss any fears or anxiety they feel and communicating this with our team will assist in providing the best care possible.
Here’s how you can help make sure your child’s first experience with the dentist is a positive one:
- If you can before you child’s first appointment, drop in and say hello, pick up a tooth brush or borrow a book from us about your child’s first visit to the dentist
- Call to discuss and offer any assistance with your child’s individual needs before their appointment
- Explain the event as a fun and positive
- Avoid using any negative words or phrases, such as “scary”, “be brave” or “nasty”
- Be encouraging about the new relationship your child is developing with LARA dental
- Make sure you are not rushed or anxious on the day
